We are working to speedily restore the Beech Street footbridge. The bridge is a dearly beloved structure in the City of South Milwaukee that connects the community and enables hundreds of children to safely walk to school.
Floods washed the pedestrian bridge downstream in late July. The last time the bridge was washed out (in 2008) it remained intact and had just floated down stream. The Parks Department pulled it back and reinforced the footings. This time the bridge was damaged and must be repaired.
Engineers have determined the bridge to be structurally unsound in its current form. We must replace two support beams and the entire deck.
The Parks Department is trying to complete this project by September 1st when school starts.
