City begins planning for new farmers market

May 13, 2009 | 0 comments

City officials will help form a committee to plan a downtown farmers market.

About a dozen South Milwaukee officials and business owners met recently to discuss the proposed market. Alderman Erik Brooks said people attending the meeting discussed the groundwork for the market, but no major decisions were made.

"It will be downtown, it's just a matter of where and when," he said.

Brooks said he and Alderman Jim Shelenske will help form a planning committee for the market later this month.

Recently, organizers of the city's only farmers market, the South Milwaukee Green Market held at Divine Mercy Parish, announced the market might not continue this year.

For information about the proposed new market, call Shelenske at (414) 762-7407 or Brooks at (414) 764-8673.
